Premier Cassel Mathale makes changes to the Executive Council

28 Jan 2011

January marks a special period in the year calendar of government, many other institutions and the people in general. This is a period when government reports back to the people through the State of the Province Addresses and the State of the Nation Address. It is also a period when government structures through the Lekgotlas meet to review service delivery and plan for the year ahead.

The driving force behind this planning and reinforcements is the desire to enhance service delivery and the determination to improve the living conditions of our people. A lot still needs to be done for services to reach all people in the rural areas of Limpopo despite our province being well endowed with mineral riches. Our people in the remote and far-flung areas of the province still need to access electricity, water, health care services, education, houses and other government services aimed at improving their standards of living.

The Limpopo provincial ANC also held its Lekgotla during the past weekend (22-23 January 2011). In an effort to look into the improvement of service delivery of the provincial government, the Lekgotla ventilated a variety of areas around the delivery of government’s services as mandated by the electorate. The deliberations and the direction of the Lekgotla necessitated a relook into the reinforcement of some areas of service delivery in the province. Coming out of the Lekgotla and following careful consideration, the Premier of the Limpopo, Mr Cassel Mathale decided to make changes to the Executive Council. The new Executive Council is as follows:

Department Executive Council Member
MEC for Education Mr Dickson Masemola
MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison Mr George Phadagi
MEC for Health and Social Development Ms Dikeledi Magadzi
MEC for Economic Development, Environment & Tourism Mr Pitsi Moloto
MEC for Provincial Treasury Mr David Masondo
MEC for Roads and Transport Ms Pinky Kekana
MEC for Public Works Ms Thabitha Mohlala
MEC for Local Government and Housing Mr Soviet Lekganyane
MEC for Sport, Art and Culture Ms Joyce Mashamba
MEC for Agriculture Ms Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba

The Premier extends his appreciation to the outgoing Members of the Executive Council for their immense contribution in the government. The members will be given other responsibilities. Premier Mathale wishes well, the two new MECs in their new responsibilities.
