Siphumelele Home not taking street kids anymore

25 Jan 2011

The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development and Siphumelele Home for abandoned children, have come to an agreement that the home will no longer take street children into its care.

At a meeting held yesterday, it was agreed that the home will screen and refer street children to Kempton Park Child Welfare.

Children who are already staying at Siphumelele will not be removed but remain in the care of the shelter.

The Department will work together with Siphumelele to determine areas of development and establish an action plan that seeks to improve the functionality of the organization.
