North West MEC Mohono calls upon road users to report reckless and negligent driving in an effort to reduce road accident and fatalities on public roads

17 Dec 2010

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Desbo Mohono on Friday, called upon road users to report reckless and negligent driving by calling the provincial toll free number: 0800 204 994 or SMS 31022.

Twenty traffic wardens who were engaged by the provincial department during the
2010 FIFA World Cup have been recalled as added human capital to assist at the
provincial call centre which is operating on a 24 hour basis throughout the festive
season. Some the traffic wardens are deployed at traffic control centres that are supporting the Arrive Alive Festive Season Campaign and the National Rolling Enforcement Plan.

“Besides the devastating impact that road accidents have on our economy, there is
untold misery behind each and every death as children are left orphaned and families
left without breadwinners as a result of irresponsible driver behaviour. We all have a
responsibility to assist root out lawlessness on public roads by reporting reckless and
negligent driving,” says MEC Mohono.
