Media briefing on Western Cape Education Department's classroom expansion plan

22 Nov 2010

Tomorrow, Minister Grant will be visiting Rondebosch-East Primary to brief media on the Western Cape Education Department's (WCED's) classroom expansion plan.

In order to expand access to quality education and to address the demands for increased admissions at successful schools, the WCED has undertaken to build additional classrooms at various schools in the metropolitan area of Cape Town.

This classroom expansion plan forms part of our infrastructure plan, which, includes the building of 25 new schools over the current Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), the replacement of 20 schools that were built with inappropriate materials and the installation of mobile classrooms at schools where there is severe overcrowding.

Rondebosch-East Primary is one of the schools that will be benefiting from this plan. Construction has already begun on the school grounds. The minister will be given a tour of the construction site at the school.

Where: Rondebosch-East Primary School - 4th Avenue, Rondebosch East
Date: 23 November 2010
