Correctional Services says the settlement made an order by the Labour Court today – has no bearing on its commitment to the employment equity plan

11 Nov 2010

The Department of Correctional Services wishes to confirm that today – 11 November 2010 - it decided to settle out of court following a labour court challenge because of an inconsistency committed in the implementation of its employment equity plan (EEP).

We wish to emphasise that the implementation of the employment equity plan remains firmly on course as it is not about discrimination of anyone, but the corrections historical injustices as accepted by both parties in dispute.

We believe that the out of court settlement that was made an order in the Labour Court in Braamfontein today, has no bearing on the department’s commitment to implement its employment equity plan. We will continue to strive for accelerated transformation of the department in line with broader government equity and development targets.
