16 Sep 2010

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will host a school imbizo based on the model of the United Nations General Assembly at the OR Tambo Building in Pretoria. The aim of the  programme is to create an authentic sense of the functioning and the deliberations of the General Assembly and enrich their understanding of the world of multilateralism.” “Indeed this will enhance the learners understanding of the nature of international politics, thus creating interest in the world of global politics,” the minister said.

“The outreach  programme is part of the overarching strategy of domestication of our foreign policy and institutionalising international relations amongst learners in the Republic of South Africa,” explained the minister.

This year participants are schools from disadvantaged communities of Soshanguve (Kgomotso High School), and Atteridgeville (Saulridge Comprehensive High), and two schools in the immediate vicinity of the department, HF Verwoerd High School and Clapham High School with special emphasis on sixty percent female representation in the project.
