In terms of section 132(2) of the Constitution which reads: "The Premier of a province appoints the Members of the Executive Council, assigns their powers and functions, and may dismiss them" and repeated almost verbatim in section 42(2) of the Provincial Constitution: "The Premier appoints the Provincial Ministers, assigns their powers and functions, and may dismiss them", I am today announcing changes to the composition of the Provincial Cabinet of the Western Cape, listed here in alphabetical order of surname:

• Theunis Botha: Health
• Anton Bredell: Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning
• Robin Carlisle: Transport and Public Works
• Patricia De Lille: Social Development (once sworn in as a Member of the Legislature)
• Donald Grant: Education
• Bonginkosi Madikizela: Human Settlements
• Ivan Meyer: Cultural Affairs And SPORT (with the additional responsibility of being the Minister designated as responsible for International Relations)
• Gerrit Van Rensburg: Agriculture
• Alan Winde: Finance, Economic Development and Tourism

It is my intention to appoint Albert Fritz as the Minister of Community Safety once all administrative processes to allow this have been finalised.

It is this government’s intention that the former Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Sakkie Jenner, be made a Committee Chairperson in the Provincial Legislature once the review of the committee structure is complete.
