Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) investigating the shooting of a 17 year old learner in Allanridge, Free State

The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) is investigating the shooting of a 17 year old learner, Nontsikelelo Anna Nokela on 13 September 2010.

It is alleged that learners were walking from Wesi Secondary School to Mosala Secondary School in Allanridge, Free State, to disrupt preliminary examinations. On their way, they came across three police officers, one with a 9mm pistol and the others with shotguns.

The learners allegedly started throwing stones at the police officers and the officer with the 9mm pistol then fired a warning shot towards the ground, which rebounded and hit the deceased on the back.

The injured learner was taken to hospital in a police vehicle where she was declared dead on arrival. The ICD is investigating charges of murder.No one has been arrested.
