Media update by the South African Military Health Service (SAMHS): deployment of medical teams to hospitals
29 Aug 2010 After consolidation of the latest information, the South African Military Health Service is currently deploying multi-disciplinary medical teams to the following 57 hospitals: Gauteng 1. Natalspruit hospital 2. Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital 3. Helen Joseph hospital 4. Kalafong hospital 5. George Mukhari hospital 6. Steve Biko 7. Tshwane District hospital 8. Mamelodi hospital 9. Rahima Moosa Mother and Child hospital 10. Tembisa hospital 11. Pretoria West 12. Heidelberg hospital 13. Weskoppies hospital North West 14. Brits hospital 15. Bophelong hospital in Mafikeng 16. Rustenburg/ JT Tabane hospital 17. Vryburg hospital 18. Schweizer-Reneke hospital 19. Potchefstroom hospital KwaZulu-Natal 20. King Edward VIII hospital 21. Mahatma Ghandi Memorial hospital 22. Gordonia hospital Depending on the request a medical team may consists of doctors, nurses and emergency healthcare practitioners.
The South African Military Health Service is also deploying personnel to assist with the cleaning of the hospitals.
The following hospitals were added since Saturday, 28 August 2010: - Letaba hospital in Mpumalanga
- Helen Franz hospital in Mpumalanga
- Elim hospital in Mpumalanga
To assist non-striking healthcare workers at hospitals, the Department of Defence has created a toll-free number where they can report intimidation incidents when they are threatened. The number that people can dial is 0800 86 44 69.
