Quality Assurance Health Care Systems holds a breakfast seminar to improve quality health care

26 May 2009

The Eastern Cape Department of Health’s top management on met at the Global Life Conference Centre, to address and evaluate some of the important matters affecting service delivery through the departmental developed service standards charter.

The Acting Superintendent General Mr P Zitumane welcomed the managers who attended this seminar saying that it is a good thing that the Quality Assurance Directorate (QAD) made it possible for everyone to gather here.

“The government of South Africa developed a number of policies to introduce service delivery to the public, it is important therefore to reflect and share this information with those necessary, the public,” he said.

Zitumane said that the Department of Health was, in 2006 one of the departments that developed the service standards in the province and thanked those who participated its development.

“Why do we exist as the public service?” was the rhetoric question posed by the General Manager of Quality Assurance Health Care Systems (QAHCS). Dr N Mjamba, when addressing other managers said the public service exists to serve the public, hence this breakfast seminar. She further mentioned that they were there to reflect on what had been given to the public and what was lacking so as to continue working on it and improve the quality.

“For the department to deliver, everyone must first understand the needs and the wants of the customer,” she said.

The department did not limit the seminar to its personnel but also invited other departments to join in so as to work together in improving the quality of services rendered the public and those were, Roads and Transport, Education, Social Development and the Office of the Premier.

Mr Clifford Peters from Office of the Premier (OTP) congratulated the Department of Health for being one of the pioneers to develop the service standards charter and for being the first department to communicate with the public about the services offered.

Quality Assurance Managers, Mrs D Pemba and Mrs N Ndobe presented the documents they have worked on and also highlighted their success and where they needed to improve.
