Trade and Industry and Economic Development Ministers in bid to avoid closure of Seardel

18 May 2009

Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies and Minister of Economic Development, Ebrahim Patel earlier today convened a meeting attended by the leadership of the South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU), the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Seardel and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), with a view to working towards a solution which all the stakeholders would contribute to and which would avoid the closing of the frame vertical pipeline strategic textile facility.

After constructive discussions, it was agreed that a task team be established to further clarify the options which have been identified and reports back to a Ministerial level meeting to be held on Monday, 25 May 2009.
