Invitation

12 Jul 2010

The Minister for Economic Development, Ebrahim Patel, in association with the Editor of the Cape Times, Alide Dasnois, and SA New Economics Network Chairman, Joseph Edozien, invites you to attend the second in a series of Policy Platforms entitled The Next Economy National Dialogue.

South Africa is emerging from a month of tremendous excitement which calls for careful reflection.  Was this just a passing sporting and economic spectacle or has it opened up opportunities which could give this country an edge as it navigates through the international global crisis? What are the positive and negative lessons relevant to the economy that we have learned and can these help shape the new national Growth Path thinking in Government?

Across the world, governments and citizens are searching for sustainable economic strategies and are discussing the shape of “the next economy."  How will South Africa build on the lessons learned from this intensive project?

National stakeholders, elected public representatives, key economic actors, and the public are invited to provide publicly inspired ideas for policy suggestions to the Economic Development Department in the spirit of wide-ranging participatory democracy.  SA New Economics Network Chairman, Joseph Edozien, will facilitate the process.

Dr Danny Jordaan, CEO of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee South Africa will lead this second Policy Platform entitled, The Next Economy:  Lessons from The World Cup.

Dr Goolam Ballim, Group Chief Economist of The Standard Bank of South Africa, and Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Board Member of the 2010 Organising Committee, will respond to the CEO’s presentation.

Further Policy Platforms will be announced as the series evolves.

It is therefore our pleasure to invite you to join us on Monday, 19 July at 5 pm for a reception at Parliament’s Imbizo Media Centre at 120 Plein Street for the Dialogue which will begin at 5.30 pm and end at 7.30 pm.  Ushers at the entrance to Parliament will direct you accordingly upon presentation of your identity document (ID) and special invitation.

For purposes of catering arrangements, kindly RSVP to Roslyn Daniels at rdaniels @economic.gov.za as soon as possible but not later than Wednesday, 14 July at 12 pm.
