7 Jun 2010

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) will be hosting a mini-symposium on the effects of climate and environmental change on fisheries as part of World Ocean Day celebrations on Tuesday, 8 June 2010. World Oceans Day was officially declared as 8 June by the United Nations in 2009. Celebrated since 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, World Ocean Day aims to raise awareness and promote responsible stewardship of the oceans. This year world oceans will be celebrated under the theme: “Our oceans: opportunities and challenges”.

Recognising that oceans are essential to food security and the health and survival of all life, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will be hosting a mini-symposium focusing on the effects of climate and environmental change on fisheries.

The details are as follows:

Venue: Iziko Museum (South African Museum), Victoria Street, Cape Town
