  • Member of the South African Air Force up to the Rank of Captain (1980 - 1983).
  • Self employed (1984 - 1987).
  • Elected as Member of Parliament for the Consistuency of Pretoria Central (1987 - 1994).
  • Whip in Parliament (1989 - 1999).
  • Elected as Member of the first Democratic Parliament in South Africa (1994 - 1999).
  • Deputy Chairperson of the Pretoria Region for the National Party (1994 - 2000).
  • Joined the African National Congress (ANC) on 24 October 2000.
  • Deployed to the National Parliament since 16 February 2001.
  • Served as member of the ANC Strategy Committee in Parliament from 16 February 2001 to 14 April 2004.
  • Served on the Joint Defence Committee from February 2001 to April 2004.
  • Served as member of the Portfolio Committee on Defence from February 2001 to April 2004.
  • Served as member of the Portfolio Committee of Correctional Services From February 2001 to April 2004.

  • Played squash, athletics and long jump.
