Discussion documents on national strategic planning and on performance monitoring and evaluation
The Ministers in The Presidency released two discussion documents on 4 September 2009.
Green Paper on National Strategic Planning
The Green Paper on national strategic planning outlines government's position on national strategic planning. (A Green Paper is a consultation document explaining government's intended policy.)
As a nation we have come a long way since achieving democracy, but we are still confronted with massive challenges. Unemployment remains very high, poverty and inequality and opportunities to better education, healthcare, public transport and basic household amenities for many remain a problem.
Read more about why we need the Green Paper in the statement by the Minister in The Presidency for National Planning, Trevor Manuel, and questions and answers on the document.
Minister Manuel tabled the document in Parliament on 7 September.
A revised Green Paper was issued on 15 January. More information is available in the statement and transcript of the briefing by Minister Manuel.
