Land and Agricultural Programmes

Mpumalanga Agricultural Development Corporation (MADC)

The MADC gives counselling, technical advice and loans to previously disadvantaged farmers. These are the loans that MADC offers:

  • MADC Seasonal Loans: This loan helps farmers to pay for the production inputs needed to produce the farm outputs. The loan is repaid in full within the same year.
  • MADC Business Loans: These are aimed at helping farmers to extend or improve their farm.
  • MADC Revolving Credit Facility: This credit facility is aimed at existing business persons who seek financing to trade in the agriculture sector.

Department of Economic Development and Planning: Enterprise Development Programme

The Enterprise Development Programme does the following

  • Promotes and develops local enterprises
  • Ensures access to finance in the province
  • Initiates and supports job creation projects
  • Ensures development of business through the establishment of SEDAs
  • Builds capacity of service providers
  • Supports the development of co-operatives.

You can benefit from this programme. Don’t let the paper work of starting and running a business get you down. Get the help you need. But remember approach this programme with specific requirements in mind. This way, you can ask for, and get the right kind of help.

Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda)

Visit your local Seda office for information and advice on how to start your new enterprise and make a success of it! People can go to a Seda for help to start a business or, if they already have a business, to make it stronger and more profitable. Seda has a special focus on co-operative enterprises.

Umsobomvu Youth Fund (UYF)

Entrepreneurship Education Training: This training is aimed at helping young people understand the concepts and principles of entrepreneurship.

Co-operative Training: This is training for young people on the basics of establishing and managing a youth co-operative business.

Graduate Development Training: This is a training programme for unemployed graduates to enhance their life and professional skills.

Business Consulting Service Vouchers: These are services designed to help the youth set up, expand or develop their businesses.

Infrastructure Development Programmes

Sakh'abakhi Contractor Development Programme

The Sakh'abakhi Contractor Development Programme is a skills development programme of the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works aimed at emerging contractors. The programme intends to develop emerging contractors working in construction into fully fledged contractors who are able to compete effectively in the open market. The programme develops the entrepreneurial and business skills of participants over a two-year period. The programme targets small, emerging contractors from disadvantaged groups, who own a contracting company or CC, have at least Grade 10, some building construction experience and are registered with the CIDB (Construction Industry Development Board).

Expanded Public Works Programme

The Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) is a national programme that aims to create work and training opportunities for the unemployed. Workers on the programme do productive work, get work experience, develop their skills and receive life-skills training. The EPWP in Mpumalanga will create 100 000 work opportunities.

National Youth Service (NYS)

The NYS is implemented through the EPWP. Projects in the NYS include carrying out essential maintenance work on government buildings, constructing and landscaping new buildings, and paving access roads to government offices.

Letsa Litsemba Mobile Craft Project

This is a skills development project aiming to enhance the skills of crafters
and artists. The programme focuses on craft production and production development. The needs of artists are identified and training provided.

The programme assists communities to develop themselves through arts and culture and be economically independent. It targets unemployed women, youth and men in poverty-stricken areas in the province.

National Development Agency (NDA)

The NDA deals with Social Development Programmes including emerging farming, early childhood development and crosscutting projects like Health and HIV/AIDS. The NDA provides the following:

Funding: The programme provides financial support for projects or programmes that will have a direct impact on improving the asset base of poor communities.

Capacity- Building : The programme identifies and supports civilorganisations that work to eradicate poverty. It helps to build capacity to increase competency and efficiency.
