Introduction

Our government has been working hard since 1994 to improve the lives of people. Housing, water, healthcare and education are all areas that government has focused on as it tries to address the imbalances of the past.

The good news is that government plans to halve the number of people living in poverty by 2014, and increase the economic growth by 6 %.

But to make this happen, government, the private sector, civil society and ordinary people must work closely together.

To make the most of a growing economy, we need to have the necessary skills - skills that not only give us access to existing job opportunities, but also empower us to create new opportunities for ourselves.

One of the most important ways of creating new job opportunities and helping to grow the economy is to start a small business.

Government understands that starting a small business is not always easy and that these businesses need support to sustain themselves and grow.

That is why government offers so many programmes to help all South African share in the growth and development of our country and improve their lives.
