Youth Month

June 2009

nyc

“Working Together We Can Do More”

South Africa commemorates Youth Day on 16 June 2009, marking the 33rd anniversary of the Soweto Uprising in 1976. This commemoration takes place within the context of government’s recent approval of the National Youth Policy (NYP) 2009 to 2014 and the establishment of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), formed through the merger of the Umsobomvu Youth Fund and the National Youth Commission, which will be launched on 16 June 2009 in Ekurhuleni. The institutions are being merged to enhance service and development opportunities provided to the youth.
