A Southern African regional
meeting will be hosted by the government of South
Africa in Pretoria on May 22 and 23 to discuss
African priorities towards the Third Tokyo
International Conference on African Development (TICAD
III). The meeting, to be attended by Southern
African governments and regional organisations on
the continent, as well as international development
partners, will discuss various areas pertaining to
African development including:
- Consolidation of Peace
- Governance
- Agricultural Development
- Private Sector Development
and Tourism
- Infrastructure
- Water Supply
- Information and Communication
Technology
- Human Resources Development
- HIV/AIDS and Other Infectious
Diseases
- Asia-Africa, Intra-African
and Regional Cooperation
In preparing for TICAD III, which
the government of Japan will host in Tokyo from
September 29 to October 1, three regional meetings
in South Africa, Kenya, and Cameroon are scheduled
to identify priority issues of each sub-region in
focused areas of TICAD III and in accordance with
the sub-regional implementation process of NEPAD.
This year marks the 10th
anniversary of the TICAD process which has become a
major international platform for African
development. TICAD co-organisers are the government
of Japan, the United Nations, Global Coalition for
Africa, and World Bank.
