Purpose
The marking of Public Service
Week by government departments and provincial
administrations over the week of 7-11 October, is aimed to
piggy-back on the logistics and publicity generated by the
national Imbizo process, to draw attention to Child Support
Grants and the need to have children who qualify be
registered in significant numbers.
In order to maximise the use
of the human and financial resources of the public service
and to gain from the massive publicity generated during the
Imbizo Focus Week; the celebration of Public
Service Week was designed to coincide. Complimentary yet
distinct to the Imbizo process, Public Service Week is
purely about service; i.e. public servants putting "Bana
Pele - lending a hand to serve children & uphold their
rights". This activity theme is in line with the
objective of the Governance and Administration objective to
"strengthen the centre of government" and draw attention to
the vital role-played by public servants in service delivery
and development in South Africa.
Communication Messages
This public service drive
will collectively communicate the following message:
- The Public Service is changing
(constantly improving service delivery standards &
innovating)
- The Public Service is an
important machinery that is strategic to South
Africa's development and it is being mobilised to
help meet the development goals of the country
-
Batho Pele
[outside link] is a live ethic and it is
being applied to ensure poverty alleviation
- Public Service Week gives
opportunity to allow back-office serving public
servants to come to the fore and "serve the
children", through child grant registrations
