PARADE COMPOSITION

COLUMN ONE : SAPS BAND

COLUMN TWO : FOOT PARADE (Cultural groups; organisations; school children; etc. led by Field Foundation Band)

COLUMN THREE : MOTORCADE (Includes 10 taxis painted with National Flag Colours)

PARADE SAFETY MEASURES

  • parade is divided into people & motorcade
  • spacing between groups will be strictly controlled (hence staggered departure times for columns)
  • pace of walking will be slow / normal work & motorcade 10 km/p
  • 400m spacing will be allowed between people & motorcade
  • SAPS brass band will be infront & another at the back leading the foot parade & motorcade
  • Medical service vehicles; traffic & public order police will be on site
  • refreshments will be available on request during parade
  • a vehicle will be on site to transport those attacked by fatigue
  • traffic motorcycles will be ahead & set pace of parade
  • organisers at UB & parade will maintain communication by cellphone or tow way radios for updates

  • Communicate and handle all emergencies
  • Attend to delegated tasks by the Chief Co-ordinator

UB Lawns
  • Co-ordinate parade on arrival at the lawns
  • Prepare people for the singing of the anthem
  • Ensure that the SANDF Ceremonial Guard is not interfered with
  • Provide refreshments to participants during formal programme
  • Co-ordinate the departure of participants (who want to leave) after formal programme
  • Co-ordinate distribution of food packs to parade participants during lunch
  • Assist with crowd control

  • Transport DACST organisers home after the event

  • DACST official will assist with co-ordination of process
  • A shuttle schedule from the UB to State Theatre will be organised
UB Area (VIP; organisers & service providers) 07:30 – 18:30
  • Accreditation / Identification still to be finalised
  • Drivers to produce identification when entering and leaving premises
UB Residential & open areas 10:00 – 18:30  
Sammy Marks Square 13:30 – 16:00
  • Traffic to assist with the clearing of routes for VIP motorcade from UB to Sammy Marks Square for lunch

DESCRIPTION OPERATIONS
Foot parade
  • Enter by gate as indicated by marshals
  • Lineup accordingly and assume posture to sing anthem
  • Follow demarcations as guided around SANDF Ceremonial Guard
  • Celebrities / sport personalities join VIP tent after singing of Anthem
Motorcade
  • Park as indicated by marshals and traffic
  • Leave at after the formal programme (reference to be made during speeches)
Lunch for parade participants
  • Takes place at 12:30 or after the formal programme
  • Participants to be called by the marshals in a systematic manner

  • tasks will be to oversee all activities including assistance of police safety and security
  • co-ordinate boarding and disembarking at PTA Bosman station
  • co-ordinate departure of back to the station until JHB Station.
  • Will be collected at JHB Station
