NO. 24 OF 1994: CONSTITUTION OF THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA SIXTH AMENDMENT
ACT, 1994.
It is hereby notified that the President has assented to the following Act,
whichis hereby published for general information:

Act
To amend the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1993, so as to
increase from five to seven the panel of recognised constitutional experts to
be appointed for purposes of the constitution-making process; and to provide
for matters incidental thereto.

BE IT ENACTED by the Constitutional Assembly, as follows:-
Amendment of section 72 of Act 200 of 1993
1. Section 72 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1993, is
hereby amended by the substitution for subsection (2) of the following
subsection:
"(2) The Constitutional Assembly shall, subject to subsection (3),
appoint an independent panel of **five** <<seven>> South African
citizens being recognised constitutional experts, not being members of
Parliament or any other legislature and not holding office in any
political party, to advise it, or the Chairperson, on any matters
pertaining to its functions, and to perform such other tasks as are
provided for in this Constitution.".
Short title and commencement
2. This Act shall be called the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa
Sixth Amendment Act, 1994, and shall be deemed to have come into operation on
23 June 1994.
